Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny, sleepy town. The people who aren't familiar with this term tend to think it's a separate island somewhere west of Montreal but in fact this part of West Island is home to every aspect of the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel grew up on the island and is often referred to as her birthplace. However, she only was there for a brief duration. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. Her first ambition was to be a dancer. Then, a growth rate increased her height and she outgrew her dance partners she had. In an article published by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. After I outgrew the male counterparts, I gave up. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In Brugel's case it was the guidance of her drama teacher in high school who pushed her to the path she needed. She was encouraged to try out for roles in a school production. She was the teacher who suggested that she take on a part in the annual school production. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she was a theatre student and earned the Bachelors in Fine Arts in the year 2000. In the past 20 years, Brugel's work has been seen on both the small and large screen. She gained the most recognition when she landed her part as Rita on the award-winning TV show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the only Canadian actress in Season 1 which was viewed only occasionally.
